DescriptionChūson-ji’s Main Hall is the center of the temple’s ceremonies and enshrines a monumental jōroku-scale Shaka Nyorai (Shakyamuni Buddha). The present principal image was newly created and consecrated in 2013, recalling Fujiwara no Kiyohira’s founding vow to establish golden images of Shakyamuni at Chūson-ji. Within the hall rebuilt in 1909, the teachings of Tendai Buddhism and the Northern Fujiwara aspiration to create a Buddhist realm of peace in Hiraizumi come together in a quiet, dignified space distinct from the splendor of the Golden Hall.
