DescriptionShiramizu Amida-dō, built in 1160 by Tokuni in memory of her husband, is the only National Treasure building in Fukushima Prefecture. The hall enshrines an Amida Triad together with the guardian kings Jikokuten and Tamonten. Surrounded on three sides by a pond and integrated with a Pure Land garden, the architecture gives physical form to the late-Heian aspiration to recreate Amida’s paradise in this world. Its waterside stillness, refined interior decoration, and serene images preserve one of northeastern Japan’s most complete expressions of Pure Land devotion.
