Description

Raigō-in is an ancient Tendai temple in the mountains of Ōhara and a foundational center of Gyosan-style Tendai shōmyō, the melodic chanting of Buddhist scriptures. Its main hall enshrines three Important Cultural Property statues from the Fujiwara period: Yakushi Nyorai, Amida Nyorai, and Shaka Nyorai. Set beyond Sanzen-in and Shōrin-in in a secluded valley, the temple preserves both the resonance of sacred chant and the clear, contemplative stillness of Ōhara.
