Description

The Kondō (Golden Hall) is the central sanctuary of Chishaku-in, head temple of the Chisan school of Shingon Buddhism. Its principal image is Dainichi Nyorai (Mahāvairocana), expressing both the solemnity of esoteric Buddhism and the quiet authority of a head monastery. The grounds also include a nationally designated scenic garden and a museum housing National Treasure wall paintings by Hasegawa Tōhaku and his school, revealing the temple’s long history as a place of learning, worship, and art.
