DescriptionJionji’s Main Hall enshrines a secret group centered on Miroku Bosatsu together with Shaka Nyorai, Jizo Bosatsu, Fudo Myoo and Gozanze Myoo. This unusual group of five deities suggests a prayer that spans past, present and future. Befitting one of Tohoku’s great ancient temples, the hall conveys less display than the weight of faith preserved across a long period of time. Although the principal images are secret, the Main Hall itself carries a quiet dignity.
