Description

Jion-ji’s main hall houses the hidden Miroku Goson, a rare group of five sacred figures. Miroku Bosatsu (Maitreya) stands at the center, accompanied by Shaka Nyorai, Jizō Bosatsu, Fudō Myōō, and Gōzanze Myōō. The ensemble brings together hope for the future, the teaching of Shakyamuni, compassionate relief, and the protective power of esoteric Buddhism. Preserved within the massive thatched hall, the figures embody the weight of a tradition sustained in northern Japan over many centuries.
