Description

Nison-in is a historic Tendai temple at the foot of Mount Ogura in Sagano. Its main hall enshrines the two Buddhas known as Hakken no Shaka, “Shakyamuni who sends devotees forth,” and Raigō no Amida, “Amida who comes to welcome them.” Together they express the Pure Land teaching of being sent from this shore and welcomed on the other shore. Surrounded by a quiet approach and the natural beauty of the mountainside, the temple offers a sense of peace that invites reflection on the passage between life and death.
