Description

The Hondo (Main Hall) of Bishamondo-Monzeki in Yamashina enshrines Bishamonten as its principal image. Traditionally attributed to Saichō, the sacred image is a hibutsu, normally concealed from public view; worshippers ordinarily pray before an omaedachi image placed in front of it. Revered for prosperity, victory, and protection, Bishamonten lends the hall a powerful yet composed dignity.
