Description

Wakamatsu-ji, founded according to tradition by Gyōki in 708, is the first temple of the Mogami Thirty-Three Kannon Pilgrimage. Its hidden principal image is Shō Kannon, and regular prayers are offered before an omaedachi image placed in front of the sacred statue. Affectionately known as Wakamatsu Kannon, the temple has also attracted widespread devotion for matchmaking and good relationships. In its quiet mountaintop setting, Kannon’s gentle compassion seems to receive the hopes of generations.
