Description

Funaoka Peace Kannon stands at the summit of Funaoka Castle Park in Shibata, rising 24 meters including its pedestal. The concrete statue was erected in October 1975 by local native Tokusaburō Noguchi, who used his own funds to pray for the repose of his late wife Shizu and for peace and safety throughout the world. Kannon holds a dove, a universal symbol of peace, and the figure has become a familiar landmark visible across the town. The interior, once open to visitors, remains closed because of damage caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake.
