DescriptionChūson-ji’s National Treasure Golden Hall was completed in 1124 by Fujiwara no Kiyohira. At the center of each altar sits Amida Buddha, flanked by Kannon and Seishi Bodhisattvas, together with six Jizō figures and the guardian kings Jikokuten and Zōchōten—an exceptional eleven-figure arrangement. Gold leaf, mother-of-pearl inlay, and elaborate lacquerwork create a vision of the Pure Land, while the remains of four generations of the Northern Fujiwara rest within the altars. Dazzling beauty and solemn remembrance are inseparable in this unique funerary sanctuary.
